Description

William Grant was the founder of the Glenfiddich distillery, a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the Scottish burg of Dufftown in Moray, and the best-selling of its kind in the world. Grant was a manager at the Mortlach distillery before.

In the summer of 1886, Grant, together with his seven, two daughters and one stonemason built the Glenfiddich distillery with their bare hands; stone by stone. They completed the construction after a year. On Christmas day of 1887, the first drop of spirit dripped from the Glenfiddich distillery copper, which stood for Valley of the Deer in Gaelic.

Today, the fifth generation of Grant’s family runs the distillery and has expanded to include three more malt distilleries, Balvenie, Kininvie and Ailsa Bay, a grain whisky distillery, Girvan and others such as Monkey Shoulder and Hendrick’s gin. In 1957, Glenfiddich introduced its iconic triangular bottle and in 1963 became the first brand to be marketed as a single malt whisky worldwide. It is also the first Scottish distillery to open its visitor centre in 1969.

Glenfiddich 12 Years is the brand’s signature expression, carefully matured in the finest American oak and European sherry oak casks for a minimum of 12 years.
