Description

Description

GlenDronach Distillery is a Scottish whisky distillery located near Forgue, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, in the Highlands. They are one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and has been a sherry cask connoisseur since 1826. The distillery has been carrying the tradition of the founder, James Allardice, maturing their whisky in the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucia.

James Allardice and the partnership of local farmers founded the GlenDronach Distillery in 1826 and he produced his first single malt whisky ‘Guid GlenDronach’. Tragedy struck in 1837 when a fire destroyed the entire distillery and Allardice going bankrupt in 1842. Years after his death, the distillery he created thrived under new stewardship of investors like Walter Scott, who rebuilt the entire distillery in 1852.

Captain Charles Grant, the youngest son of William Grant of Glenfiddich bought the distillery in 1920. It remained with the Grant Family for 40 years before it was sold to William Teachers & Sons in 1960. Unfortunately over the couple of years, the distillery did not receive enough backings or popularity and eventually landed in the ownership of Pernod Ricard. Benriach Distilling Co bought the GlenDronach Distillery in 2008 and in 2016, it was purchased by Brown-Forman Corporation and it included Benriach and Glenglassaugh distillery.

The GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is a Highland Scotch whisky that pays homage to 200 years ago when the distillery was first founded and it was common practice at the time to burn peat in the kiln towards the end of the barley malting process. Bottled at 48% ABV.
