The Founder of Johnnie Walker brand was John Walker, a grocer. Johnnie Walker is now owned by Diageo that originated in the Scottish burgh of Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire. After the death of John Walker in 1859, the brand was taken over by his son, Alexander Walker, who helped turn it into the global super power that it is today. It is now the most widely distributed brand of blended Scotch whisky in the world, sold in almost every country.
Johnnie Walker Double Black Label officially launched in the year 2011, previously only available in the travel market such as the airport. Not to be confused with Johnnie Walker Black Label, Double Black is a variant of the classic Black Label and not a wholly distinct new whisky of its own.
Johnnie Walker Double Black Label is easily identifiable with its translucent black bottle and an additional gold banding below the Johnnie Walker label. The general single malt and grain whisky remains the same. The key difference is the increase in smokier malts in the blend as well as in the use of sherry casks with a deep char which combine to yield a more rich and intense finish in the end product than standard Black Label.
Johnnie Walker Double Black Label is a blended Scotch whisky created by Master Blender Jim Beveridge with an intense smoky character and layers of spice, inspired by our iconic Johnnie Walker Black Label. Strongly influenced by powerful West Coast and Island whiskies, it's an impressive choice and ideal for sharing, whatever the occasion. Bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
