Finlaggan is a brand of unspecified Islay single malt launched by Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd in 1992. Former export director at Morrison Bowmore Distillery, Brian Cook founded the Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd. The source of the Finlaggan single malt is a closely guarded secret by the Company and has only been revealed to contain a single malt from an Islay distillery. The Company also revealed that it always has and always will contain whisky from the same distillery. A favourite topic among whisky connoisseurs is the identity of Finlaggan and is thought to be sourced from one of the Islay distilleries Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg or Caol Ila.
Finlaggan is named after the old ruins of Finlaggan Castle, a historic site on Loch Finlaggan on Islay and the residence of The Lord of the Isles. The Vintage Malt Whisky Co also has another unspecified Highland single malt under the brand name Tantallan. Other brands by the Company includes Black Cuillin (Island single malt Scotch whisky), Glenalmond (Highland blended Scotch whisky), Tambowie (Blended Scotch whisky), The Illeach (Islay single malt Scotch whisky) and The Pibroch (Islay single malt Scotch whisky).
Finlaggan Old Reserve is a No Age Statement (NAS) Islay single malt Scotch whisky that is matured entirely in Bourbon casks. It is speculated to be a young whisky of around the range of six to eight years. Finlaggan Old Reserve is also renowned for being a very good single malt Scotch whisky with a very good price among whisky connoisseurs. Bottled at the standard 40% ABV. Try one for yourself and tell us what you think of Finlaggan’s source.
